Chitra Kavya: Picture Poems

Sanskrit verses that are also puzzles, patterns and pictures.

Chitra kavya, 'picture poetry', is the Sanskrit art of verses built under strict constraints: lines that read the same backwards, verses that fit the shape of a lotus or a wheel, and poems laid out on a chessboard. Each chapter takes one such verse, shows how it is built, and what it says.
