Day 7 | Kalaratri, Kali & Dhumavati: What Darkness Can Teach
Time, Darkness and Impermanence

यह कथा अभी हिन्दी में उपलब्ध नहीं है। अंग्रेज़ी मूल दिखाया जा रहा है।
The seventh Navadurga is Kalaratri, a fierce protective form whose imagery confronts fear and destructive forces.
Today I am considering two Mahavidyas alongside her: Kali and Dhumavati. This is how our nine-day reflection includes all ten Mahavidyas without inventing a tenth Navaratri worship day.
Kali is widely associated with time, death, transformation and liberation. Dhumavati's austere and often elderly imagery engages with loss, deprivation, dissatisfaction and impermanence. They are distinct goddesses, not interchangeable names for Kalaratri.
Why bring these difficult images into a festival often described through light and victory? Because spiritual traditions also ask us to face realities we would rather avoid.
There is wisdom in acknowledging uncertainty. There is maturity in realizing that not every loss can be reversed and not every question has a comforting answer. Facing life's limits can deepen compassion and help us value what matters.
